About
Mt Airy Family Commons
We run a a cooperative indoor gathering space in a former convent that we often dub "a social club for families" or "a parent support group in disguise." We have structured (mom's and dad's nights, member-taught classes and hosted events) and unstructured gathering opportunities. Presently, we have nearly 100 member families of all sorts, shapes, and structures, mostly with kids from age 0 to 8.
Who Should Join
Caregivers and kids who are looking to build connection and blow off steam. We are largely frequented by locals (Mt Airy, Germantown, Chestnut Hill), but members come from as far as Roxborough and some suburbs. Members are long-time residents and recent transplants looking for new friends for themselves and their little ones. This is more of a giant living room than a curated kid-zone, which we think helps folks feel more comfortable.
Best Way To Join
Visit mtairyfamily.org and sign up for a Pay What You Can monthly membership! Members are required to participate in an orientation before using the space for the first time -- because we are cooperatively run, the space is unstaffed and members use an access code to enter during open hours, making it important to the co-organizers (volunteers, all!) to meet and greet new folks and orient them to the ins and outs of the space.
