Homies Helping Homies

About

Homies Helping Homies

Homies partners with local grocers and food rescue organizations to collect fresh groceries and household supplies and redistribute them to the communities we serve in Point Breeze, Grays Ferry and beyond. We also host events at our garage space spotlighting local bands, artists and creatives. You can join any one or more of our teams! Our Saturday intake team- rescuing and sorting food in an intimate and laid back setting. Our Sunday distribution team- meeting at Wharton Square Park and Audenried Charter School to set up and facilitate our tables of food for community members to shop from. Connect face to face with shoppers and fellow volunteers. Our Community clean up team- meeting at different locations around South West Philly to battle legacy dumping and make the streets, parks and gardens safer for everyone to experience them. Our Event Planning Committee- setting up, helping facilitate and breaking down our shows, events and community tabling opportunities.

Who Should Join

Homies is an inclusive environment run by volunteers who want to make a difference. If you are tired of seeing thousands of pounds of perfectly good food go to waste every day, seeing or experiencing food insecurity in your neighborhood, stepping over trash and avoiding parks that are neglected by the city or even just looking to form meaningful relationships in Philadelphia, then homies is the place for you.

Best Way To Join

If you want to get involved with Homies you can sign up for a volunteer shift on our sign up genius, come by the park or the school on a Sunday morning or come out to on of our garage shows to talk to a volunteer and see what we have going on!
