About
Counterparts
The Counterparts are mixed voice a cappella singers with voice ranges including Sopranos, First Altos, Second Altos, Tenors, and Basses. We rehearse for two hours every Monday night and perform a cappella music throughout the Greater Philadelphia region for parties large and small. Repertoire includes a range from American standards to contemporary songs in a jazz style ensemble.
Counterparts are a member group is AACA:
The American A Cappella Alliance (AACA), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, originally created as “Spring Sing”, has been supporting the a cappella community for over 65 years.
AACA strives to:
foster and support individual and community appreciation and understanding of the history and development of unaccompanied choral music, especially through the formation, promotion, and preservation of contemporary a cappella ensembles as cultural and educational resources in North American communities
encourage individual participation in and community support for such groups through education, demonstration, and presentation of public programs; and
carry on any and all activities as may be helpful or appropriate to the foregoing goals and purposes.
Who Should Join
Anyone who is interested in singing a cappella and being a part of a tight blend of jazzy harmonies. This is for singers who can memorize their music and hold their notes in a five part mixed a cappella group, though not all are professional singers.
Best Way To Join
Join us for a rehearsal to get the feel of our music and our group. We have an audition piece to share with you, and once you’ve attended a couple rehearsals, we have an informal audition where you perform for the group in a quintet to demonstrate your blend with the group. (You can hold the music for auditions, and note that performances have music memorized.)
